Getting To The Roots Of Messy Stuff
This course guides participants through the 6 visible and invisible practices that create many of the ‘messy stuff’ we face in life. It identifies the roles of these practices in maintaining a system that makes talking about these ‘messy stuff’ uncomfortable. Many of our beliefs are unconscious and yet, they play an important role in how we make decisions about a person or a specific group of people.
These beliefs are what we use to understand, engage, and judge a person or a specific group of people. It is these beliefs we hold that shape our paradigm or world view.
In this session, we explore the differences between ‘messy topics’ such as: Bias/prejudice, Discrimination, Institutional Power, and how each converge to shape and maintain the messy System of Colonialism.
If we are to successfully build more diversity, equity, and inclusion within organizations and communities, it is important to understand how to talk about these messy life topics effectively and skillfully.
